Inception
The beginning od library in Levice was influenced by historical events in nationality-mixed region. There were only hungarian libraries at first. Probably in 1859 was set up The Casino Library, which was the first hungarian public library with about 1360 collections mostly hungarian books borrowed exclusively for members and visitors of the casino.
In that time were run some more libraries The Library of Craftmen association with about 750 books, Catholic Library with 1767 books and The Dobrovicky`s Library with 1350 books. Later was established The Hungarian Public Library with 5000 collections.
The first record of slovak library is from 1927 opened two days per week for six hours in common. In 1951 was established The Regional Folk Library as merger of slovak and hungarian libraries later renamed as Regional Library and since 1996 called Tekovian Library.
